DAB Monitor SFN
Key features
- Two-channel DAB receiver to monitor the RF outputs of two transmitters
- Monitoring of synchronism of the single-frequency network
- Monitoring of quality and availability of service at the transmitter site
- Remote control and alarming via SNMP and FTP interfaces
- Extendible by software options
Applications
- Inherent part of the transmitter to ensure quality of service
- Long-term analysis of integrity of DAB transmitter networks
- To find sporadic malfunction in the single-frequency network
Description
The DAB Monitor SFN contains two independently working DAB receivers. They allow for the permanent supervision of two transmitters at the same site. The RF inputs, that are externally connected to the monitoring outputs of the transmitters, are internally connected to the two receiver inputs via a switch that allows to interchange the input channels. This forms a redundant system to eliminate false alarms.
The DAB Monitor SFN was made for unattended permanent operation in a network based monitoring system. The device can be configured via FTP or with SNMP Set. Alarms can be transmitted by SNMP traps or eight configurable relay outputs. In the context of its extensive self-monitoring the device signalises device failures via a regular status trap as well as via a reserved relay output.
A touch screen display at the front panel shows the status of the device and of the received DAB signals.
Two configurable optical outputs at the rear panel offer the RDI data streams or two S/PDIF audio signals respectively. This way the DAB Monitor SFN can be combined with devices for monitoring or analysis of the content of the ensemble (ETI monitoring).
With the basic version of the firmware the DAB Monitor SFN monitors the following parameters of the COFDM signal at the transmitter output:
- the synchronisation states of Null symbol, channel decoder and audio decoder,
- the bit error rates of MSC and FIC,
- the timing of the signal compared with GPS time.
For the supervision of the timing of the DAB signal, the DAB Monitor SFN contains a GPS receiver with feeding for an external active antenna. A power splitter for the L1 signal allows for the operation of multiple DAB Monitor SFN with the same GPS antenna without additional components.
Every 10 seconds the device sends a sequence of SNMP traps containing the measured values of the monitored parameters.
With extended firmware (DMSFN-OES) the hardware of the device will allow the supervision of the following additional parameters:
- MER,
- RF level,
- crest factor,
- spectral mask,
- TII,
- analysis of FIC,
- error rates of outer error correction of DAB+ and DMB,
- quality of the audio coding for DAB, DAB+ and DMB audio.
